Album of the Year Part 1: RURA, Blazin' Fiddles and Siobhan Miller

RURA - Despite the Dark

Despite the Dark is the second release from RURA following Break it up that was released in 2012. The quintet have been here, there and everywhere this Summer performing and promoting material from the new Album including Cambridge Folk Festival and Tønder Folk Festival in Denmark. As well as Album of the Year RURA have also been nominated in the Live Act of the Year category. This is hardly a surprise given that the quintet are one of the most in demand bands on the folk scene.

As a few of you may be able to tell I am a Blazin' Fiddles superfan! This is the 8th (yes 8th!) release from the Blazers and i have to admit that it is probably one of my favourites. This album is a great mix of traditional gems as well as some more contemporary compositions and self penned tunes by the band. I was lucky enough to see Blazin in Aberdeen on their annual August tour and they were in fine form as always.

Siobhan is flying the flag for solo singers in the Album of the Year Category as Flight of time is the only solo album to feature in the final ten! I realy enjoyed Flight of Time and it is definetly worth a listen. I was lucky enough to see Siobhan perform at the Mitchell Theatre in January and it was great even though it was freezing standing behind the merch table by the door. She'll be tough to beat with fans of Scots Song backing her all the way.

Voting closes tomorrow so if you haven't voted yet you better get to it!
